Victoria Hanson and Yasmin Paulson launched Hampers for Heroes six weeks ago to show appreciation for key workers in hospitals and care homes in the region, as well as those who have been forced to self-isolate.

The special packages have contained items such as food, drinks and much-needed hand creams. They have been delivered by a group of 45 community volunteers who have joined the good cause.

The venture by the Solihull-based mothers has so far raised £3,722 through its page, of which 100 per cent goes towards running the good cause and purchasing items for the hampers.

Their work has got the attention of Mayor Andy Street who said he has been touched by their selfless efforts. He joined the team and mucked in himself, helping to pack some hampers.

He said: “The way the West Midlands community has come together in the face of the coronavirus pandemic has been truly heart-warming, and Hampers for Heroes is a brilliant example of this.

Andy Street helps out with packing

“I had a great time meeting the team and helping them pack some hampers, ready to be delivered to some of the key worker heroes across the region who are on the frontline against this terrible virus.

“Victoria and Yasmin should be incredibly proud of what they have set up from their garages in Solihull, and I wish them and their team all the best as they look to expand across the UK.”

Victoria and Yasmin said: “We are so happy to have Andy Street’s support. We are so motivated to reach far and wide that we called on Andy to help us engage with the business community.

"The community enthusiasm surrounding Hampers for Heroes has been overwhelming and created a huge sense of belonging and purpose for our volunteers during such difficult times.”
