Eight students who have completed the National Council for the Training of Journalists (NCTJ) Diploma in Journalism at the college were presented with their certificates on Friday by Martin Wright, Editor-in-Chief of the Express & Star and the Shropshire Star and member of the NCTJ board of directors.

Since finishing exams in June, many of the students have already secured jobs in the industry, including at the Express & Star, Shropshire Star and BBC Radio Shropshire, as well as completing a placement at online Asian magazine Desiblitz.

Dani Wozencroft, NCTJ tutor at the college, said: "The NCTJ course is the industry standard qualification for journalists. It combines studying at college with work placements at local newspapers, magazines, radio stations or news agencies and really prepares students for life in the industry.

“I am extremely proud that, yet again, we had a 100 per cent pass rate with a number of students achieving Gold Standard - which includes 100 words per minute shorthand - and many walking straight into jobs. I am delighted for them.”

The college has been accredited by the NCTJ since 1997 and is the only accredited further education journalism training centre in the Midlands.
