Consistency is key to high standards at Wood Green Academy

Wood Green Academy (WGA) continues to excel in its achievements for young people.

This year, students in the academy achieved its best ever results, with 71 per cent of students in Year 11 gaining 5A*- C GCSEs, including English and maths.

This has been a remarkable year for the academy, not only for its results but also its achievement in other areas.

In September 2011 the academy was chosen to be one of the first 100 teaching schools in the country. These schools would be pioneers in their field.

In May 2012 Ofsted visited WGA and classed it to be "outstanding" again, its third outstanding Ofsted report in succession. A truly remarkable achievement.

Comments from Ofsted stated: "This is an outstanding school. It provides excellent opportunities for students to thrive, develop and achieve exceptionally well, irrespective of their different circumstances."

The academy has also been successful in bidding for funds to improve buildings, and by March 2013, around £1.5 million will have been invested in improving the site.

Parent and student surveys clearly show that safety, enjoyment and support are consistently delivered by Wood Green Academy. The excellent attendance levels demonstrate that students enjoy being at Wood Green.

In May 2012 Ofsted commented that: "Relationships are harmonious and students feel exceptionally safe."

The academy is also renowned for its excellent behaviour. The Ofsted report states: "Behaviour is excellent and all are able to learn and thrive in an atmosphere of respect and dignity."

Wood Green Academy lies firmly at the heart of the local community, through the excellent opportunities it provides for students to thrive, develop and achieve exceptionally well, irrespective of their different circumstances.

It provides support for other schools in the area, offers after-school clubs and classes to local people, and is involved in many fund-raising activities.

The academy encourages its students to be good citizens and to see themselves, and Wood Green, as members of the national and global community.
