Mother-of-two Cynthia Turner, 55, was brutally attacked by her husband of five years Legitte Reid just hours after returning from holiday to Portugal where she had gone to get a break from him.

Wolverhampton Crown Court heard the defendant collected her from a Smethwick address on the evening of December 8 last year. When they returned to their Hilton Road home in Tividale in Oldbury, they got into a row which escalated.

Prosecuting barrister Miss Michelle Heeley KC said Reid, also 55, chased his wife and had pulled off her clothes as she tried to escape for her life. Neighbours overhearing the commotion later told the police she was naked as she climbed onto the fence, but he dragged her down to the ground by her ankles before stabbing her repeatedly in the garden.

Miss Heeley said the victim's body had a total of 19 sharp force injuries eight of which had penetrated. Of those two went into her heart.
