Attempted murder arrest after shooting in Walsall

Detectives investigating a shooting in Walsall have arrested a man on suspicion of attempted murder.

People were injured and shots were fired during the incident in Cobden Street just after 1pm on Tuesday, May 4.

A silver 4x4 crashed into a stationary black VW Golf at the junction of King Street and Cobden Street injuring one male occupant and a female pedestrian. Another occupant was unhurt.

Then seconds later shots were fired from another vehicle. The occupants of the 4x4 then set their vehicle alight and made off. The fire spread to the Golf and a nearby house.

A 29-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday morning on suspicion of attempted murder. He is currently being questioned by officers.

Four other people arrested in connection with the incident have been released on bail.

A man aged 20 and a 34-year-old woman, who were injured, are still in hospital in a stable condition.

Detective Inspector Chris Fox, from West Midlands Police's force CID, said: “We remain determined to fully understand what happened that day and who was responsible.

“The impact on those involved and the wider community is significant.

“The violence used on our streets in this attack carried out in broad daylight was both shocking and frightening.

“We have had lots of witnesses come forward and I would like to offer my thanks to those people.

"However, we still need anyone who know anything about what happened and hasn’t yet spoken to us, to do so please.”
