Inquest into death of stabbed Smethwick teenager is adjourned

An inquest has been opened and adjourned into the death of a 17-year-old who died after being stabbed in Smethwick.

Derlarno Samuels, from Smethwick, was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital after the incident at around 4.14pm on May 1.

Black Country Coroners Court heard Mr Samuels was stabbed in the chest and died shortly afterwards the same day.

Area Coroner Joanne Lees opened and adjourned the inquest as a result of the police investigation – with a man having been charged with murder.

Camron Dunn, 18, of Sketchley Close in Smethwick, has been charged with murder. He appeared in court last week and has been remanded in custody for a plea hearing.

Mr Samuels' family had previously paid tribute to him in a statement, saying: "Derlarno was ambitious, inquisitive and full of life.

"He was a generous young man who is much loved and missed by his family and friends.”
