The dog, named Penny, escaped from her elderly owner's home on Bradford Road in Brownhills and was found by two carers.

It was while the two carers were looking to locate the owner on Wednesday, December 23, that they were approached by a man in a small red car who said he was the owner.

After handing the King Charles spaniel over, the carers subsequently discovered that the man was not Penny's owner.

They informed West Midlands Police, who have launched an appeal for help locating Penny.

A description of the man has been released, describing him as having medium dark brown hair, with a medium length beard and an accent, who was last seen driving towards the Tin Man.
