Armed police arrest man, 25, after shop stabbing threats

A man was arrested minutes after being reported entering a mini market armed with a knife.

Armed police were deployed to Washwood Heath Road, Birmingham, after reports of the man running into the shop and making threats to stab people with a knife.

He ran to a nearby park, but was quickly tracked down by a police dog and subsequently arrested at gun point.

The man, who is believed to be 25, was arrested and has been transported into custody.

West Midlands Police superintendent Jack Hadley said the incident was one which required quick action from his officers.

He said: "This was a very dynamic incident and it was imperative we got officers to the scene to apprehend the man and protect the public.

"Thankfully, no-one was hurt and the suspect was swiftly traced to a park area where he was handcuffed and arrested."
