Neighbours said they became aware of the incident when police cars and paramedics arrived at the scene at around 2.45pm.

The air ambulance also landed nearby but the victim was taken to hospital by land ambulance.

The residential cul-de-sac was cordoned off for several hours as police started their investigation and a black Renault car was recovered from the scene.

Officers were in the area on Sunday afternoon carrying out house-to-house enquiries and gathering CCTV evidence.

So far no arrests have been made.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: "We were called to reports of a man who had been stabbed. The man was outside a property on Alderford Close in Wolverhampton.

"An ambulance, two paramedic officers and the Midlands Air Ambulance from Cosford were sent to the scene after a call at 2.35pm.

"The man was assessed and treated at the scene before being taken on blue lights to hospital; the doctor from the air ambulance travelled with the crew."
