Man charged after 17-hour siege in Birmingham

A Birmingham man has been charged with false imprisonment and threats to kill after a 17-hour siege.

West Midlands Police and ambulance crews were called to Tarrant Grove, in Quinton, at around 5pm on Friday.

The situation was resolved at about 10.30am yesterday.

A 33-year-old woman, who was known to him, had received a cut to her arm. She was checked over by ambulance staff but was not seriously injured, though shaken by her ordeal.

Shazad Mahmood, 35, from Hubert Road, Selly Oak, has been remanded to appear at Birmingham Magistrates Court tomorrow.
