The black Vauxhall Astra smashed into a wall outside a house and overturned on Brookvale Road, in Witton, Birmingham,

A large part of the wall ended up leaning against a resident's car, which was also damaged, and a street sign was also broken in the smash, which happened at 3am.

Four passengers were able to free themselves before police and fire crews arrived at the scene.

Some of the passengers were treated for broken bones and the driver was arrested at the scene on suspicion of drink-driving.

West Midlands Police's traffic unit shared the image from the scene on Twitter to serve as a warning against drink-driving.

A spokeswoman for West Midlands Fire Service added: "We were called at 3.16am this morning to Brook Vale Road in Witton.

"Two crews attended from Perry Barr. One car was in collision with a wall and road furniture.

"Incident involved four occupants who all self-extricated prior to our arrival.

"We made the vehicle and area safe and left by 4.22am."
