One man has been jailed for 12 months for spitting at officers in Cannock. And another man was jailed for six months for spitting at officers in Stafford.

And police said patrols in south Staffordshire have prevented teenagers meeting in groups in Wombourne, while Cannock officers have checked on licensed premises and have worked with local authority partners in trading standards advising publicans against lock-ins.

But Staffordshire Police have said the vast majority of people are following Government guidelines.

Staffordshire Police Chief Constable Gareth Morgan said: “We want to thank the vast majority of people in Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent who have been brilliant and followed the government guidelines which are designed to stop the spread of Covid-19, protect the NHS and save lives.

“We don’t want a tiny minority to undo all the efforts and sacrifices already made by so many people to stop the spread of this disease and to save lives. We all recognise that this is a difficult time but it is truly a community effort and each one of us has a vital part to play.”
