A murder investigation is under way after a man was found dead at a flat in Tettenhall Road

Police were alerted to the alleged murder when one of the suspects, a 27-year-old man, handed himself in and reported the man's death at a police station at around 11.30am yesterday.

The alleged murder victim was then found by officers at a flat on the corner of the A41 Tettenhall Road and Newhampton Road West in Newbridge.

Two ambulances were sent to the scene but nothing could be done to save the man and he was confirmed dead at the scene, West Midlands Ambulance Service said.

A 33-year-old woman has also since been arrested on suspicion of murder and the suspects, who are both from Wolverhampton, remained in custody this morning.

Detectives from West Midlands Police have not yet disclosed how the man died and only described his injuries as "significant".

The force has appealed for anyone who saw anything suspicious in the Tettenhall area between 8pm on Monday and the early hours of Tuesday to come forward.

Detective Inspector Laura Harrison, from West Midland Police's homicide team, said: "We are in the early stages of this investigation and our thoughts are with the loved ones of the man who has died.

“I would urge anyone with information, who heard anything or who noticed any suspicious behaviour in the Tettenhall area after 8pm on Monday and into the early hours of Tuesday to get in touch with us.

"We need to piece together the movements of those involved and work out exactly what happened.”

The victim's family are being supported by specialist officers.

Police outside the Tettenhall Road flat on Tuesday

Neighbours in the area had spoken of their shock at seeing police in the street on Tuesday, amid the coronavirus lockdown.

One resident, who lives nearby, who wished to remain anonymous, said: "I saw lots of police outside the flat on Tuesday.

"One of the neighbours told me someone had died and there was often a lot of shouting from the flat."

Another added: "My son and I walked past the flat, there was a police car outside on the pavement and the flat front door was open. We had to cross the road to get past.

"A van then pulled up, think it may have been police or private ambulance. Another policeman was taking pictures outside of the flat and further on down the road.

"I live just up the road from the flat. We didn't know what was happening until a friend showed me the post on Facebook today. It is quite scary as it is so close to where I live."

Anyone with information is asked to call West Midlands Police, quoting crime reference 20WV/94693F/20, or to call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
