Bogus energy official targeting Bearwood residents
A bogus official from an electricity company has been targeting residents in an area of Sandwell.
A man dressed as an NPOWER employee has been asking Bearwood residents if they live alone and whether they were leaving the property that day.
Police said they are investigating as NPOWER has confirmed staff are not in the area.
A spokeswoman for West Midlands Police said: "Please be aware that we noted a trend of attempted distraction burglaries in Sandwell.
"Reports indicate that male has been seen in Bearwood, dressed as an NPOWER employee.
"The male has asked local residents whether they lived alone, or whether they were leaving their property that day.
"The residents have then called the police as this behaviour is highly suspicious. We can confirm that NPOWER has been informed and stated that there is no planned staff in the area.
"We are investigating this occurrence and ask our communities to be vigilant. Please circulate this message and help keep our communities safe."
