His manoeuvre left the woman needing to have a partial leg amputation.

The crash happened in Great Bridge Street, between Great Bridge and West Bromwich.

Aldo Turja was driving along in his Ford Focus in May this year when he attempting to turn around.

Half way through the turn, the 29-year-old lost control of his car, mounting the pavement.

He struck the woman pedestrian and hit a wall.

The 59-year-old victim was rushed to hospital, where she was forced to have part of one leg amputated.

Turja, of no fixed address, pleaded guilty to causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

He was sentenced to two and a half years in prison during a hearing at Wolverhampton Crown Court on Friday.

Detective Sergeant Paul Hughes, from West Midlands Police, said: "This is a tragic case where a woman’s life has drastically changed because of the actions of this man.

“No sentence will ever compensate for the quality of life she has been left with, but I hope this outcome highlights the responsibility every driver has when they are behind the wheel.”
