The 16-year-old boy was found with a gunshot wound to the head in Graiseley Street, in the Pennfields area, just before 8pm on Monday night.

He remains in a critical condition in hospital today and is likely to remain that way in the upcoming days, a police spokesman said.

Two boys, aged 15 and 17, were initially arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and a 20-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assault.

But a West Midlands Police spokesman confirmed on Wednesday that the three have all been released with no further action.

Streets around Graiseley Street were cordoned off, as police launched an investigation into the shooting on Monday night.

Bystander Tim Brannon described the chaos as shots rang out and armed police descended on the street.

Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call West Midlands Police on 101, quoting crime reference number 20WV/108168F/19.

Alternatively, witnesses can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
