A spokesman for the force said: "Police are investigating after the body of a woman was found at an address in West Bromwich early this morning.

"Officers were called to Beacon View Road in the Charlemont Farm area just before 5.30am, where the body of a 35-year-old woman was found.

"The death is currently being treated as unexplained and a 51-year-old man arrested in connection with the death remains in police custody.

"Enquiries continue and anyone with information is asked to contact us."

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman added: "We were called to reports of a cardiac arrest at a property on Beaconview Road in West Bromwich shortly after 5.00am this morning.

"Two ambulances and a paramedic officer attended. Sadly, nothing could be done to save the patient, a woman, and she was confirmed deceased on scene."

Residents in the area have been left in shock and have described the woman's death as 'truly tragic'.

One resident, who asked not to be named, said: "I have seen people come and go and this is tragic. It shouldn't happen.

"It is a quiet neighbourhood. It is ever so quiet and there's been trouble for many a year – but that's just an odd argument, nothing else.

"A lady told me what happened. It is a bit of a shock and there was plenty here this morning – white coats, forensics."

Speaking about the victim, he added: "She was quite friendly. No bother at all. She was so young and it's such a loss.

"It is a sad event really. It is not going to be easy to get over with it being so close."

Another neighbour said: "I don't like it around here. I am frightened to death.

"I don't feel safe around here anymore."

While another resident added: "I suppose it is very sad when this happens, but I am quite used to it nowadays.

"There was a guy who used to live next to me before he moved who died.

"There seems to be a lot of people dying and then there was that murder just down from here.

"This used to be a really bad area, but it's improved."

On the same estate the body of 33-year-old June Jones was discovered on December 31 last year at her maisonette, just round the corner from Beacon View Road in Wyndmill Crescent.

Her former partner Michael Foran, 32, has been charged with her murder and will stand trial in May.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call West Midlands Police on 101, quoting incident number 293 of March 6.
