Man dislocates police officer's thumb in 'violent' Halesowen arrest

A wanted burglary suspect dislocated an officer's thumb during a 'violent' arrest in Halesowen.

The 21-year-old was arrested in Beaumont Road on Friday night after he was wanted for a burglary that took place in Halesowen last October.

According to officers, the man became 'violent' and assaulted a police sergeant, dislocating his thumb.

The man remained in custody on Saturday morning.

A spokesman for Force Response said: "Officers arrested a male wanted for recall to prison in Halesowen. He became violent and assaulted Sergeant Stokes dislocating his thumb."

A spokesman for West Midlands Police added: "A man who was wanted in connection with a burglary that took place in October 2018 was arrested by officers in Halesowen last night.

"Officers swooped on an address in Beaumont Road, to arrest the 21-year-old after information was received following our appeal for info on Facebook.

"He was further arrested for assaulting a police officer who suffered a broken thumb whilst trying to detain him. The 21-year-old remains in police custody this morning."
