Stoke City fan arrested after allegedly spitting at police officer at Wolverhampton station

A police officer was spat at as football fans wreaked havoc on a train.

A man was arrested on suspicion of assault after the officer was spat at and pushed as he was removed from a train at Wolverhampton station as he was believed to be drunk.

Stoke City fans were travelling through the Black Country on Saturday following the club's FA Cup match against Coventry City.

British Transport Police said there were 'numerous incidents of fans being abusive and causing disorder' during the journey, including running over train tracks at Stoke Station.

BTPCheshire said on its Twitter account: "The assault happened at Wolverhampton. Disorderly behaviour was continuous for the whole journey from Coventry to Stoke #NotAcceptable"

The 30-year-old man from Stoke-on-Trent was arrested on suspicion of assaulting a constable in the execution of his/her duty and has been released under investigation.
