The former Clothier Street Primary School, in Harry Perks Street, will make way for 48 homes.

The plans submitted by Walsall Housing Group and Galliford Try Partnerships were given the green light by the borough council on Friday.

The school site was made vacant in 2007, with the building demolished not long after.

Councillor Sean Coughlan, who represents Willenhall South, said: "I am really pleased that the application has now been granted.

"I have worked tirelessly with council officers since the old school was demolished to ensure that we get the right development put in place.

"This is the right development, the area is in desperate need of regeneration and family housing.

"I look forward to seeing the project come together."

The plans will see 30 two bedroom homes, 13 three bedroom homes and five one bedroom flats built on site, with 72 car parking spaces provided.
