The Queen and Prince Philip today said a heartfelt thank you for the spectacular Diamond Jubilee Pageant at RAF Cosford.

They described the event as a 'truly enjoyable wonderful day'.

More than 30,000 people flocked to the July 12 party at the airbase to celebrate the Queen's 60-year reign.

A letter from Buckingham Palace was sent to Shropshire's Lord Lieutenant Mr Algy Heber-Percy from Assistant Private Secretary Mr Doug King.

It read: "The reception in the Cold War Hangar was an innovative and enjoyable addition to a wonderful day. The Diamond Jubilee Pageant lent the day a celebratory atmosphere and the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh enjoyed the displays and ideas that made up the Pageant and were delighted to share the day with all those who attended the event."

Mr Heber-Percy said: "It is truly wonderful to know that Her Majesty enjoyed the day and our thanks also go to the many, many people who made it happen and supported the Queen and Duke of Edinburgh."
