The 64-year-old Coventry musician will perform alongside The Neville Staple band, performing ska classics and hits from his career with The Specials, Fun Boy Three, Special Beat, Judge Roughneck, Rude Rebels and more.

Speaking ahead of the shows, Staple says: “I remember the massive reactions to the hit songs like Ghost Town, Too Much Too Young and Gangsters and fans still write to me about my rugged, energetic and fun stage presence.

"The way we brought ska to the mainstream was by mixing Jamaican music with the English style, which at the time was punk. A lot of young bands are now putting their own spin on ska –some with dance music and some with a rock beat. It’s all good.

"The music just makes you want to dance. Even when singing about tough times, every-day things or bad things, the beat and the rhythm makes you want to move.

"I turn all our live shows into a massive party. The crowd love it and sing along to all the tracks.”

Earlier this year, the group released new single Put Away Your Knives, carrying an anti-knife crime message following the death of Staple's grandson Fidel Glasgow.

“We are dedicating the song to my grandson Fidel and to everyone else out there, who has been affected by violent crimes," said Staple to exhimusic.com.

"It’s time we take back some control and teach the youth right from wrong, and the consequences of their actions.

"This song is highlighting the pain and the anger being inflicted on the families too. It asks the youths to just stop, think and put down the knives”.

The Neville Staple band play Bilston's Robin 2 on Friday.
