Sheku, who has been announced to perform at the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, will also put on a show at the Symphony Hall as part of the BBC Young Musician 2018 Grand Final on May 13.

Among the acts set to perform at the Birmingham Classical 2018/19 spectacular will be The Symphony Orchestra of India, who will play the Symphony Hall next year in the group's first UK tour since forming in 2006.

Other classical artists announced for the season include the likes of Quator Arod, Rafal Blechacz, Orchestra of the Royal Opera House, London Sinfonietta, The British Paraorchestra, Alice Sara Ott and the St Petersburg Philharmonic.

Head of artistic programming, Richard Hawley, said the ambitious season is set to showcase a variety of 'astounding young and multi-cultural artists'.

"“In addition to providing seasoned attenders with a wealth of distinguished music, it is ever important to provide a relevant and accessible programme for new audiences," he said.

"Birmingham is the youngest city in Europe and more ethnically diverse than London."
