Bantock House, on the outskirts of the city, played host to it's first ever wedding fair to highlight the venues Wolverhampton council has to offer for couples, as well as promoting local businesses across the Black Country.

Visitors flocked to the Finchfield Road venue on Saturday to look at 18 stalls set up by local businesses, covering a variety of weeding needs including cakes, photography and flowers.

The event ran from 11am to 5pm with the venue also put on a bar and singing entertainment throughout the day as well as having its cafe open to visitors.

It was the first event of its kind that the council has put on since it held the wedding fair at the Art Museum in 2014.

Laura Page, marketing development officer at Wolverhampton council, said: "Our venues got the licence to do weddings in 2016 and we haven't exactly shouted about it that we do them, so it was a nice opportunity to showcase the venue and it's layout and get local businesses involved.

"Bantock is so well loved within the Finchfield area and there's so many people that live on its doorstep that love the place and now we've been able to do weddings and different types of events here.

"We've done christenings, parties, wakes, corporate events - they just love that we're making use of the venue and showcasing it to lots of people.

"The wedding fair has showcased venue dressers, handmade crafts, cakes, photography, singers, a gin bar, Max Speilman are here showcasing new products too.

"I think it'll be a real success, we're hoping that later in the year we'll be able to do another fair back at the art gallery, it's just a good way to showcase the venues and what we can offer, and again help promote local businesses."
