The Birmingham group released their debut EP Dwell in April 2016. The new release, out late last month, is available in both digital and physical formats with a special ‘orange crush’ vinyl pressing limited to 200 copies.

Recorded in the space of a week at Emeline Studios in Kent and produced by Ian Sadler, the band are confident and excited about the release, which they say is their they say is their most formidable work to date.

The line-up features Keiran Hyland on vocals, Alex Edge on lead guitar, Josh Taylor on rhythm guitar, bassist Zak Taylor, and drummer Jake Oseland.

Keiran says: “We feel this EP is a big step up for us and compared with debut EP Dwell. It’s a much more concentrated listening experience and has the best writing both musically and lyrically that any of us has ever come up with. We spent a solid week recording in Whitstable, Kent, which was fun. We rented out a caravan to stay in next to the beach on a dodgy holiday park, but had to sneak each other on to the site because the security only thought there were four of us staying there.”

To accompany the release, the band has released a new video for lead single Post Graduation, directed and produced by Henry Cox, vocalist of pop-punk band Boston Manor.

When asked about the thoughts behind the song, Keiran says: “I recently graduated from university after the three best years of my life, I said goodbye to the mates I made and packed my bags up to come back home to live with my parents, and there was a sudden crushing realisation that things would likely never be the same. The lyrics are about how my time living away from home went so fast and how I took everything for granted, and now I was just back where I started three years ago.

“One of my favourite lyrics is ‘we watched a pile of letters build up on the living room floor’, which refers to how you could feel a change in all the mates I had made in the three years, it was like everyone was on a bit of a downer and had realised that this experience was over.”

To promote The Length of a Smile, Coast To Coast will tour the UK on the Fox Records tour beginning in Leeds tomorrow and including a date at the Asylum in Birmingham next Tuesday, April 18. They will be accompanied by label mates Better Than Never, as well as Liverpool’s Pine and Luke Rainsford.
