Hundreds of women got into the spirit of the annual day at Ascot by hosting their own celebrations.

At Wolverhampton Rugby Club, more than 370 people had a flutter while listening to a jazz band and enjoying a three-course meal and disco.

Meanwhile, at Pattingham Social Club, guests danced the day away with a Caribbean steel band.

Kenneth Clive has organised the charity event at Wolverhampton Rugby Club for the past 11 years. It raised cash for Compton Hospice, Wolverhampton MS Therapy Centre and youth clubs in the area.

"It went absolutely fantastic - the best one I've organised yet," he said. "We had the biggest marquee ever and it looked brilliant. The women looked very impressive in some lovely outfits and hats.

"I think the pictures tell the story. The number of guests were up from last year which was also great to see. It's such a great event and it motivates me to try and improve it year after year.

"I'm yet to count up the final figure of what we've donated but we usually raise around £4,000 each year and I'm confident we've done the same again this time round.

"The Rotary Club raise about £20,000 each year so this will hopefully be a good amount to help reach that figure again."

The event in Pattingham raised more than £1,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support.
