Celebrating senior citizens

A new national celebration day in honour of senior citizens is being launched next month – following a campaign started in Bilston.

The campaign started by Lord Dennis Turner of Bilston when he was an MP two years ago has finally come to fruition.

Following campaigns from Bilston residents and civic leaders in the town, the government has confirmed it will be launching "Older People's Day" on October 1.

Lord Turner organised a series of publicity-raising campaigns and even wrote to the Queen asking for her backing for the event
