Dave Edwards: Wolves players are 'ashamed'

Dave Edwards today admitted Wolves players are "ashamed" of their performance this season and said relegation meant they had let the club down.

Midfielder Edwards was responding after the muted 'lap of appreciation' following the last home game of the season yesterday, the 0-0 draw against Everton. The Wales international admitted Wolves haven't been good enough this campaign.

"The fans feel just the same as us – we're ashamed, we're upset and we're disappointed at the way we played because the manager has put faith in the players he selects and we haven't been good enough this season," said the 26-year-old.

"And we feel we've let the club down as a whole from the people at the top, to 'TC' (manager Terry Connor).

"We wanted to show our appreciation to the fans – we're very grateful that they stayed because they'd have been well within their rights to have gone home early.

"It was nice for us to get our families on the pitch – that meant a lot to me to share that moment and the fans were good enough to give us a round of applause.

"We've really appreciated their support all season."

Manager Terry Connor, who led the lap of appreciation, thanked the fans.

"In many ways we've let them down so it was nice they stayed behind and we were able to show our appreciation for the support they have given us," he said.

Defender Jody Craddock joined his team-mates despite his youngest son Toby being diagnosed with leukaemia. Players wore 'get well Toby' T-shirts warming up yesterday.

Craddock thanked the fans, while he revealed he won't retire – whether or not he's offered another contract when his deal expires next month.

"The fans have been fantastic," he said. "I'm on Twitter and have had hundreds of messages from Wolves fans, West Brom fans, fans from all clubs."

Asked if he was getting a new deal, Craddock tweeted: "That's up to the club. I'm not retiring though."
