Wharne impresses as he books place in last eight

Stafford Institute’s Malcolm Wharne booked his place in the Secretaries Cup quarter final with an impressive 3-0 home win over Dartmouth Central’s Paul Piddock.

Wednesfield RBL’s David Meeley won the deciding frame to edge to a 3-2 victory over Snooks’ Andrew Docherty, whilst Mark Pool won a tight contest 3-2 against Chris Williams of Pelsall.

Rich Davies, John Hartley, Colin Reade, Lee Archer and Mark Wall also progressed to the quarter finals.

Division One leaders Hotshots A overcame their B team 3-2 courtesy of wins for Callum Downing, Karl Ashmore, and a decider from Paul Deaville to extend their unbeaten run.

Pennfields are still looking for their first win of the season in Division One after being condemned to a 4-1 defeat at Baggeridge Social.

Roman Hutchings made a spectacular century break of 105 for Pennfields, but wins for John Read, Dave Hall, James Hill and Maria Catalano sealed victory for the hosts.

Elsewhere, Golden Cue A posted a strong away win at Sedgley Ex-Servicemen’s A. Graham Cole, Mark Rollinson and Sam Thompson clinched the frames in a 3-2 victory.

In Division Two, Shifnal WMC B stayed top after narrowly prevailing 3-2 over Poet’s Corner B at home.

Paul Harper, Steve Powell and a decider from Aaron Sparkes ultimately cancelled out winning frames from Rich Parker and Darren Millard in a 3-2 win.

Bilston BC A are up to second following a 3-2 away win at Landywood D. Jason Colbourne, Nathan Edwards and Ashley Wall were the winners for Bilston.

Tony Davies of Pennifield’s B made the division’s highest break of the week with 36.

Wednesfield Cons B, Dartmouth Central and Golden Cue B are locked on 23 points at the top of Division Three.

Sedgley’s Baden Lavender made the division’s highest break of the week with 32.

Golden Cue B prevailed 3-2 at home over Poet’s Corner E with winning frames from Conner Showell, Carl Dawson-Bannister and Dave Holmes.

In Division Four, Willenhall Libs B handed a surprise defeat to league leaders Bilston S&S to register their first victory of the season.

Wins for Spencer McCarthy, who posted the division’s highest break of the week with 42, Mark Hull, Richard Bate and Paul Evans helped them to a 4-1 win.

Hotshots C sit two points behind Bilston S&S after defeating fellow promotion rivals Charlemont B 3-2.

Penn Fields D climbed into second after winning 3-2 at home to Lea Hall in Division Five.

Dave Hubbard, Vince Darmanin and Colin Birch were the winners for the hosts.

Forty Four Club A have moved into third following an impressive 4-1 away win over Essington C courtesy of wins from Dave Walker, Gary Baker, David Williams and Alan Rogers.
