Sporting Khalsa have moved back to the top of the Midland Premier Division with Dan Westwood netting a hat-trick in a thumping 7-0 victory over Haughmond.

But that didn’t stop manager Ian Rowe from dishing out a strong team talk midway through their convincing Bank Holiday Monday win.

Khalsa led 4-0 at the interval but Rowe was still disappointed with the start his team made to the match.

And he warned his players they cannot afford to make similar mistakes if they want to be promoted this year.

“I know the scoreline suggests it was a bit of a caning but I wasn’t happy at times,” Rowe said.

“I’ve not been in that position before when I’m ranting and raving at half-time and we’re 4-0 up.

“You do sound like a bit of an idiot.

“But we didn’t start well and could easily have been 2-0 down.

“So at half-time I pointed out the mistakes we had made.

“It’s about principles and standards. On another day we’d have fallen behind before we had got going. And then it’s a very different match.

“But I was pleased with how clinical we were. We practically scored from every chance we created.

“It puts us back on top which is nice. If we carry on winning four games out of five, we’ll be there for thereabouts.”

Liam Armstrong (two), Josh McKenzie and Carlo Franco added the other goals for Khalsa.

Elsewhere in the division, strikes from Darrargh Bustin and Emile Beckford saw newly-promoted Tividale secure a 2-1 win over Lye Town.

Tivi now sit fourth in the table, one place ahead of Walsall Wood who lost 2-0 to AFC Wulfrunians.

Christopher Sterling and Mathew Johnson got the goals for Wulfrunians who have moved up to 15th in the standings.
