Wolves Fans' Verdict v Bournemouth: Another solid win

Our supporters share their thoughts on Wolves' hard-fought 1-0 win against Bournemouth.

I had a feeling coming into the game that it wouldn’t be the walk in the park that most Wolves fans thought it would be on Twitter.

It was a fairly laboured Wolves performance that did improve in the second half but all of that is irrelevant. Wolves are now starting to grind out results against the lesser teams even when they aren’t at their best. A sign of a great team? It could well be.

No Wolves player was outstanding but both Traore and the colossal Boly were the top performers. Traore’s ability to take the game by the scruff of the neck has really pulled Wolves through games this season and he did it again.

Wolves will have to pick their game up a little bit, especially in possession against Villa on Saturday. If they can, I expect three points.

Job done, simple as that really. Even if I had been in the Stan Cullis I doubt the game would have stayed in the memory for long. It is rarely pretty playing Bournemouth these days, the cynical unpleasant side of the game dominates their approach. They will not be missed next season. These, of course, are the type of games we have often failed to win.

Within the mediocrity however there were moments of quality. Traore had a wonderful dribble up the centre that involved up to seven Bournemouth players that ended with an inevitable foul. He also replicated his inch perfect cross from WHU to set up the only goal. The icing on the cake could, and should, have been provided by Neto in the last minute, when he ran from his own half but shot wide.

Two games, which on paper you expected us to win, have been completed successfully.

Our three centre halves deserve credit for stifling everything comfortably. We never looked like conceding a goal, the pick of the bunch was Boly who managed to also offer a threat in attack.

It would be nice to replicate the level of our second half performance in the first half. The opening goal invariably improves the game, the sooner we can get it then the better we look.

Another win and clean sheet, the perfect start you could say. The first half was very slow from us, more than likely due to the heat, but we never looked in danger of conceding.

We stepped it up a lot more in the second half but a very professional performance in the end. Once again the brilliant combination of Adama and Jimenez the difference, déjà-vu from Saturday with virtually the same goal.

Adama Traore once again being involved in a goal and win for us. He never really got a touch in the first 30 minutes but once he went on that mazy run not long after, things started to change. He received the ball a lot more in the second half and he was causing serious problems down the right like usual. Brilliant cross for Jimenez’s goal and it was a top class header from the Mexican. The defence were solid throughout and Patricio relieved a lot of pressure for them on set pieces, being confident in coming for the ball helped a lot.

The heat no doubt played its part because we conserved our energy well and hurt Bournemouth in the second half when they were tired. One thing I would say we need to do better from this game would be the amount of fouls we gave away in dangerous positions, however luckily for us the delivery wasn’t great for Bournemouth and they barely threatened us.

I’m absolutely delighted with Wolves' restart as this game, in particular, could have been considered a “banana skin” game.

Another clean sheet, together with the match winning combination of Traore and Jimenez. This bodes well for the remaining games.

I have the feel that every player is totally committed to the game plan which is about patience and controlling the game in the first half, before increasing the tempo in the second. As other teams are tiring, we are hitting our peak and have the firepower to win games.

I also believe we are currently playing within ourselves, with at least a couple of gears more to use, when needed.

We looked solid all over the pitch and Bournemouth played better than I expected. The largely unsung hero of Willy Boly keeps doing his stuff. That’s 6 clean sheets In the 7 games since he returned from injury!

Man of the Match goes to Traore. He got 70 minutes game time and was the most creative player. His run and dribble to the byline is becoming more of a trademark than his speed. Fair play to him. He’s successfully adapted his play. He is using the ball intelligently and also cutting inside or playing the ball backwards in order to build an attack from a better position - something we would not see last season.

We’ve blown away Sheffield Utd and 3rd place is becoming more and more a realistic prospect.

Quite obviously the worldwide imports from Mexico, Portugal, Morocco and Spain amongst others found it difficult in the Wolvo heat!

It was ridiculously hot which made it hard for both sides but we edged it and hardly gave Bournemouth a shot. We could have won by more with a couple of brilliant runs by Adama and Neto but neither troubled the scorers. The goal that won it was a typical Adama-Jimenez combination, the header being a throwback to the likes of Andy Gray and The Doog following a Waggy-esque cross.

Other than that it was a match littered with poor passes but you always sensed we could switch up the gears and we did it albeit on a minimum number of occasions. But results matter and 6 clean sheets in seven tells another story. Roll on Saturday.
