Leander Dendoncker and Raul Jimenez gave away possession respectively in the build-up to Gerard Deulofeu and Abdoulaye Doucoure finding the net for the Hornets.

Wolves responded through Pedro Neto and the hosts had Christian Kabasele sent off late on, but Nuno's side could not find a leveller and lost 2-1.

It is back-to-back defeats for the first time since September, and Nuno said: "I'm not happy.

"Of course, I'm not happy. I think we should do better.

"It was a tough game. In the first half, we had a couple of good chances.

"But we didn't have enough rhythm with the ball and reaction to the second ball.

"The goals of Watford come from our mistakes in possession, so it's something we have to look at.

"We improved a little bit in the second half, but not enough."

The loss at Vicarage Road came on the back of a top showing at Liverpool – although they were downed 1-0 – and a thrilling 3-2 triumph against Manchester City.

When asked if the below-par display against the Hornets was due to tiredness after those two games, Nuno insisted: "It's a tough schedule for everyone.

"It doesn't have to do with what's happened before.

"We should have started the game better. We have to look at it."

Kabasele was sent off in the 70th minute following a VAR review.

The defender was initially shown a yellow card by referee Andrew Madley for taking down Diogo Jota, but the technology was consulted and it was changed.

It is the first time Wolves have had a major decision overturned in their favour, but Nuno is still worried about VAR.

"I haven't seen the image yet, but from the pitch, I thought it was a clear chance for Diogo," he said.

"The referee saw it one way, VAR the other.

"We must get used to VAR. But the fans are not liking it, and this is what worries me the most."

The positive for Nuno was that Neto – after cruelly being denied a goal at Liverpool by VAR – opened his Premier League account for Wolves.

"He had a fantastic goal (at Liverpool) also. He deserved it. He's working very hard," added Nuno.
