Nuno's side were 2-0 down at Molineux, but they came up with an amazing comeback in the final half an hour – in a clash filled with drama.

Adama Traore began the response with a fierce drive from outside of the box and set up Raul Jimenez's equaliser before Matt Doherty's last-gasp strike, which saw Wolves win 3-2 and complete the double over the Premier League champions.

Now, they are preparing for a trip to table-topping Liverpool, and Nuno said: "We performed very well.

"It was an incredible night, the atmosphere was amazing – from the beginning until the end.

"It was a very emotional game with a lot of things, but well played.

"I think we played good. We tried, tried and tried.

"We didn't change our way, and we achieved a very good performance. The boys worked very hard."

Raheem Sterling scored twice for City, who had goalkeeper Ederson sent off early on for wiping out Diogo Jota.

Sterling's first goal saw him miss two penalties – getting to take another because of VAR intervening for encroachment from Wolves skipper Conor Coady – but finish on the rebound from the latter.

A missile was thrown onto the pitch from the South Bank while City celebrated, and Nuno urged fans not to do it again while the FA are now investigating the situation.

Nuno – with Wolves having gained 14 points from losing positions, the most of any Premier League team this term – said on the comeback: "This is us. We keep going, keep believing, knowing that the game lasts until the end."

Pep Guardiola, meanwhile, called Wolves a 'top side' and insisted they are a top-four contender.

Wolves received similar praise from Tottenham chief Jose Mourinho recently, and when asked if the kind words from those gaffers mean a lot, Nuno added: "Of course, because they are the best ones around.

"It is good, and when we compete against these good teams with good managers, it is what we want.

"We want to grow, compete and improve. This is what it's all about, so let's keep moving and getting better."
