Southampton's 5-1 win against Sunderland tonight confirmed Wolves as the Premier League 2 Division 2 champions.

The Saints started the night three points behind Wolves, but with a goal difference 11 inferior to Rob Edwards' side.

Wolves effectively won the title last Friday with a phenomenal win at Manchester United, coming from 2-0 down with just 10 minutes to play to win 3-2.

An own goal from United's Lee O'Connor after 80 minutes was followed by a Niall Ennis equaliser in the 88th minute before Sadou Diallo struck a last-gasp winner to earn Wolves the title in the most dramatic of circumstances, sparking wild celebrations at Leigh Sports Village.

Wolves will next season play in Premier League 2 Division 1, competing against the likes of Manchester City, Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal.

Edwards said after Friday's last-gasp win: "It was incredible how they turned it around. They showed something there, they’re going to be good players. They’re going to have good, long careers if they keep that.

"I’m proud. At 2-0 down we showed belief and character, I’ve seen a lot from these players, but I haven’t seen that

"To be 2-0 down to a top team, with unbelievable individuals, shows our lads have a bit about them. They were incredible scenes to score that one late on.

"It's an unbelievable rollercoaster of emotions."
