A permanent £32million deal for Mexican striker Jimenez, which will go through in the summer, was announced last week.

Jimenez followed the news by scoring in the FA Cup semi-final loss to Watford at Wembley last weekend, being set up by Doherty, who said on the signing: “He has been a great player for us.

“He’s been absolutely fantastic. His stats probably speak for themselves, he’s got goals, he’s got assists, but it’s not only that, just his performances in general, the way he holds the ball up, the way he works hard for the team, so as a teammate I’m obviously delighted to see him to commit his future long-term to the club.

“For someone of his quality to sign permanently to Wolves and commit their future for the next four years, I’m over the moon.

“I’m very happy for Raul, especially with this being his first season in the Premier League. He’s just taken to it.

“Not many players are able to do that. People usually say it takes time to adapt but he’s kicked on straight away with goals and hit the ground running.”

Jimenez, 27, has come up with 16 goals in all competitions, having initially joined on a season-long loan from Portuguese side Benfica.

And Doherty reckons he is the latest of a long list of foreign players who have signed and then settled in seamlessly under Nuno Espirito Santo.

“That’s kind of been the case for all the players we’ve had,” added Doherty.

“I don’t know whether it’s because they feel comfortable around everyone, maybe because there’s a lot of new lads here, or because of the way the staff and management team have been.

“They all seem to be at home here and really enjoying it.

"We’ve got a lot of good players tied down for their long-term futures now, so it’s all looking good for the future of the club.”
