Costa broke his Premier League scoring duck in his 19th appearance to seal a brilliant 3-1 win for Wolves at Wembley.

The 24-year-old has been in and out the side of late but will be on red alert to start against Crystal Palace on Wednesday if Adama Traore and Diogo Jota aren't fit.

Captain Conor Coady said of Costa's goal: "He deserved it. People have been talking saying he's not scored but him to take it like he did at Wembley, coming off the bench, it's brilliant.

"It shows the type of lad he is to keep going, keep working at it.

"He's a special footballer but a special lad as well."

Matt Doherty produced his fourth assist of the season when setting up Costa's strike just three minutes from time.

The Irishman said: "I'm really pleased for him.

"He was going through on goal and I was just thinking 'please, please put it in the back of the net'!

"That type of thing is important, you want to contribute to the team.

"Plus if it doesn't go in it's still 2-1 and who knows what might happen, they might go up the other end.

"When it's 3-1 it completely kills the game, it deflates them and gives us that cushion.

"By the end of it we were just knocking the ball around.

"He's a quality player, we know each other's games, we have one-twos, either I go inside or he does, so yeah he's a top quality player.

"He had a lot of work to do, he had someone bearing down on him, he slotted it nicely past the keeper which was a big relief."

Defender Ryan Bennett added: "It's brilliant, he's always played well, he works so hard. It's nice to see any of the lads score. To go in one-on-one and seal the game is magical for him, especially at Wembley."
