Matt Doherty: Slurs at Wolves are sour grapes

Matt Doherty believes their rivals having a dig is just 'sour grapes' and won't disrupt Wolves as they eye promotion glory.

Wolves have come under attack from other Championship clubs and supporters this week, while the EFL are set to meet the Molineux hierarchy to discuss their links with Jorge Mendes.

Ahead of today's derby against Villa – who themselves haven't been shy in having their say – Doherty said: "To be honest we don't see that much of it.

"I'll go online and see something like that and some of us will have a little chat about it but we just think it's teams with sour grapes looking in and thinking how can we disrupt the way they're playing and get into our heads.

"It's just not going to work that way.

"I saw the (Leeds) chairman had tweeted after the game. If anything it will probably make us want it even more, if that's possible.

"What it can do it annoy and sometimes when people are like that they're even better.

"It's not going to impact us in a bad way, that's for sure."

Wolves returned to form with a 3-0 win at Leeds on Wednesday, which the Irishman believes has set Nuno Espirito Santo's team up perfectly for today's game.

"This is the one everyone wants to play in.

"Villa away, you'd almost rather play in that one than the home one beause if you go to their place and turn them over it'll be an even better feeling.

"We've been speaking about it for a while, I've been looking at it thinking that could be the one either way.

"We can't wait to play.

"We knew it would be important to get a bit of momentum going into this game.

"Wednesday night was what we needed especially as we hadn't won in three games, which felt like a long time considering everyone else had won.

"We played really well – back to what we normally are like.

"It's a huge game against Villa and we're really looking forward to it."
