Five Wolves Checkatrade Trophy stars to keep your eye on

Plenty of Wolves pups caught the eye after their Checkatrade Trophy demolition of Accrington Stanley in midweek. Tim Spiers takes a look at the very best of the bunch.

1 HARRY BURGOYNE

Harry Burgoyne

Kept a clean sheet in the Accrington victory on Tuesday and is highly thought of at Compton Park.

The 19-year-old enjoyed three loan spells last season and despite his young age already has 20 first-team games under his belt.

After stepping up from the youth team he's been a regular in the under-23s this season and kept plenty of clean sheets along the way. Another loan spell this season will be his target.

Goalkeeping coach Pat Mountain said of Burgoyne last summer: "He's got as good a career ahead of him as his attitude takes him."

2 MORGAN GIBBS-WHITE

Morgan Gibbs-White

Aged just 16 but what a prospect this boy is.

An England Under-17 international, Gibbs-White played up front against Accrington and was a right handful.

Has risen very quickly through the academy ranks since making his under-18 debut last season, aged just 15.

Now an under-23 regular and has all the attributes to make it to first-team level.

Has played in central midfield, on the wing or as a number 10, but the pacey, strong and creative Gibbs-White is happy to play anywhere.

3 CONNOR RONAN

Connor Ronan

Composed midfielder who now captains the under-23 side, aged 18.

Ronan was named as Ireland Under-17 Player of the Year last season and has featured with the Wolves first team for the past two pre-seasons.

Possesses excellent technique and an eye for a pass. Earned praise from Kenny Jackett last season and he'll now look to catch the eye of Paul Lambert.

Wolves have plenty of midfielders but Ronan must be an outside bet to make a first-team appearance this season. Very highly regarded at Compton Park.

4 BRIGHT ENOBAKHARE

Syvain Deslandes

Been a first-team contender since the start of last season but he's still only 18.

Made nine appearances under Jackett in 2015/16, scoring against Barnet in the EFL Cup but hasn't featured yet this year.

Scored against both Crewe and Accrington in the Checkatrade Trophy and looks to have settled after his AWOL exploits last year.

Constantly looks to make something happen and take players on. His end product is improving now too. Will surely make it at league level – but will it be with Wolves?

5 NIALL ENNIS

Niall Ennis

Not actually featured in the Checkatrade Trophy yet but no list of potential future Wolves stars is complete without Ennis.

If he keeps improving – and keeps his feet on the floor – the England youth striker is destined to be a star.

Only injury prevented him from making a first-team debut aged just 16 last season, according to Jackett.

Netted twice in pre-season with the first team and gave two international defenders the runaround against Swansea at Molineux. Keep your eye on this one.
