Wolves fell behind to Sam Gallagher volley as they conceded yet another early goal.

They were second best for long spells but improved late on and could even have gone on to win the game after Edwards' 78th-minute header.

It was the Welsh international's third goal at Ewood Park in three seasons and a point was arguably a fair result given that both teams spurned good chances.

Analysis

There was never going to be a revolution for Wolves at Ewood Park. Indeed, they left that to the home fans, whose protest against owners Venky's in arriving after 18 minutes and leaving after 75 was powerful and well-orchestrated.

But, while much of the game was reminiscent of the depressing last few weeks under Walter Zenga, there were some small glimpses into a positive future ahead.

Make no mistake, Wolves were poor for large chunks of this game.

In keeping with recent form they were hesitant and error-prone at the back and lacked a clinical touch in front of goal.

For the seventh time this season they conceded in the first 15 minutes of the game.

And they were largely second best either side of the break to a poor Blackburn Rovers team languishing in the relegation zone.

However in their spirit and their late assault on Jason Steele's goal they did at least show the passion and desire that has been lacking.

They also, for the first time since Blues away in August, conceded first but didn't go on to lose the game.

Interim boss Rob Edwards, if he's still in charge for next weekend's visit of Derby, will need much more of that fighting spirit if he's to have a chance of getting the job permanently.

More importantly, he'll need his team to show far more quality in possession than they did here.

Wolves' final ball was, for the most part, dreadful and they were sluggish in midfield.

They certainly improved in the latter stages when Helder Costa and substitutes Ivan Cavaleiro and Joao Teixeira were in full flow.

But Wolves, who are now just three points off the drop zone, need to improve quickly, whoever is in charge.

Key moments

13 - GOAL - A poor clearance from Kortney Hause drops to Jason Lowe whose cross is smacked first-time on the volley from 15 yards past Carl Ikeme by Sam Gallagher. A great hit but he was given so much room to hit it, with Danny Batth standing off him.

24 - Jon Dadi Bodvarsson tees up Conor Coady with a great knock-down from a cross - Coady takes a touch before crashing over from 12 yards.

25 - And now Bodvarsson gets in down the right before pulling back for David Edwards whose shot across goal from close range is inches past the post.

32 - Jed Wallace tees up Coady. He sets his sights from 25 yards and isn't too far away from the top corner.

38 - Ben Marshall is given time and space by Matt Doherty and Batth to cut inside and aim for the corner from 20 yards - Ikeme denies him with a good save.

63 - Should be 2-0 Blackburn but Gallagher puts his shot too close to Andy Lonergan from point-blank range.

74 - Great work from Ivan Cavaleiro who tees up Costa on the right flank - he crosses into the six yard box where Edwards sending a diving header just past the post. A great chance.

78 - GOAL - Teixeira's shot is saved by Jason Steele, it comes to Doherty on the right and his clipped cross is headed home by Edwards.

82 - Cavaleiro cuts inside and forces Steele into a good save from 20 yards. Then Doherty whistles a screaming 25-yard half volley just over the bar from range.
