James Henry earned his place says Wolves boss

Wolves midfielder James Henry looks set to stay at the club after fighting his way back into Kenny Jackett's plans.

Henry appeared close to a move Charlton Athletic last month.

The London club inquired as to his availability and Jackett was non-committal when quizzed on whether Henry had a future at Molineux.

However Henry has started Wolves' last two pre-season games, against Aston Villa and Doncaster.

And having impressed the Wolves chief with his performances and his attitude, it seems the 26-year-old is set to stay.

"He's fought his way back in and had a good pre-season and hasn't done himself any harm in terms of team selection," Jackett said.

"I've been pleased with his attitude and the quality that he's brought.

"In terms of the first team, if he continues to do that and if I think he's the best player to play, yes he will be part of my plans."

Fellow midfielder Michael Jacobs recently left the club to join League One side Wigan after falling out of favour.

And that, combined with Henry's form and attitude, seems to have lengthened the odds on him leaving the club.

When asked if Henry could leave, Jackett said: "At the moment no, we don't feel that's the case.

"We had an inquiry from Charlton but it wasn't any more than that so at present James is part of the side and the squad.

"We're not awash with natural wide men and there are opportunities for wide players there, that's obvious for everyone to see, and he's been one of the ones that's taken that opportunity so far."

Henry is out of contract next summer and Charlton were rumoured to be lining up a £500,000 bid.

He joined Wolves from Millwall in October 2013, initially on loan before a permanent deal was sealed three months later.

Henry competed with Dutchman Rajiv Van La Parra for the wide-right berth last season and made 40 appearances in total, scoring five goals including Wolves' goal of the season - a stunning long-range strike to earn a late point away at Bolton.
