Kevin McDonald rallies his Wolves team-mates to achieve title reward
Kevin McDonald today urged his Wolves team-mates to seize the last 10 games as a golden moment in their careers to achieve the first honour of the club's recovery.
Wolves go to form team and McDonald's former club Sheffield United tomorrow aiming to return to winning ways against a team that has reeled off 11 unbeaten games, winning 10, with eight consecutive clean sheets.
Playmaker McDonald is likely to run a gauntlet of abuse on his first return to Bramall Lane.
But the 25-year-old midfielder isn't fazed by his reception and is instead more concerned about the bigger picture – automatic promotion.
"It's 10 games of our lives but if we do the right things, the rewards will be there at the end of it," said McDonald.
"The mood has been good ever since I signed, even when the results weren't always going our way.
"The other night wasn't a great way to lose as we didn't play as well as we can at Crawley, but you get ups and down during a season and we have to rise above it."
McDonald believes Wolves can end the Blades' run if they return to their pre-Shrewsbury form.
"It will be a hard game – like Brentford away, a big 90 minutes for both teams but we've got a great team spirit and if we do the right things I'm confident we can come away with the right result."
Head coach Kenny Jackett vowed McDonald will show the Blades his best form.
"He can handle it," he said. "The main thing is concentrating on the game; I don't think the players against him will have those grievances.
"He has to do his talking on the pitch and whatever comes at him, he's experienced enough to handle it.
"Any provocation he gets from the crowd won't affect him."
McDonald warned United their run may be about to come to an end.
"We know about that feeling when you're winning week-in, week-out, but there's always a defeat around the corner – as we found out against Crawley," he said.
"I still speak to Ryan Flynn there – we've been good mates ever since I went there - so I've been having some banter with him this week and I'm struggling to believe we're playing against each other!
"It was only a matter of time before they picked up.
"The new manager (Nigel Clough) has changed things, and they're playing good football again and enjoying it."
