The hosts were 3-1 winners to consolidate their position of fifth in the Championship, largely in thanks to a much-improved second-half performance where Matt Phillips and substitute Semi Ajayi found the net.

Jed Wallace had opened the scoring for Albion after a Hull defensive error, but Lewie Coyle's equaliser before the break was the least the impressive Tigers deserved.

Phillips' goal to make it 2-1 after the hour was a result of a wonderful flowing team move, which initially involved playing backwards from midfield into defence.

Corberan said: "Yes, very pleasing because we played a very competitive, very challenging game. I respect a lot Hull City, like I said before the game, they have a very good style when you put together the players, and a very good coach.

"They are one of the most competitive teams for me in the Championship. From then, I think it was a massive, in my opinion, defensive test today to see if we were able to be solid in other areas at the same time. The way in which we scored the first goal, so that we tried to be aggressive. What we tried to do worked and after we were solid.

"The team only made one mistake which was the goal because they tried to make one play and every time our winger was ready to press. We then managed better, but after that we need to close their strikers, to pass back and be more aggressive and pressing. The way that we conceded the goal was a mistake and in the second half the team improved and were more aggressive."
