Sam Johnstone

Kept Albion in the game in the first half with two smart saves, one with his hands and one with his feet. Not much he could have done about the goal, which was converted from close range after two flick-ons from a corner. 7/10

Tosin Adarabioyo

Conceded a needless corner that led to Wednesday’s goal and was caught out by a cross-field ball from Barry Bannan. His height and composure on the ball has its uses, but his position could come under pressure depending on January business. 5/10

Craig Dawson

Had a few too many forward passes cut out, but dealt with Nuhiu’s physical presence well after the opening goal. Won eight headers, the second highest number in the match and continues to flourish at centre-back. 6/10

Kyle Bartley

Looked more comfortable in a back four rather than a back three, and won a match-high 11 headers. Although he got caught out high up the pitch once, there were more moments of strong defending in his first match since October. 6/10

Kieran Gibbs

Kept his man quiet for most of the match, and also provided an attacking outlet. His one-two with Barnes in the second half was memorable, as was an impressive run down the touchline that won a free-kick. Cut out more crosses than usual too. 7/10

Chris Brunt

Misplaced a few forward passes in the first half, but his corners to the back post were causing trouble. Improved after the break, and helped drive Albion forward with 10 men, before popping up with the all-important goal. 6/10

James Morrison

Probably Albion's brightest spark in the first half. Always looking for the ball and slipped Sako in behind for a good chance. Lost the ball a couple of times in the second half before being taken off after the hour mark. 7/10

Jake Livermore

Seemed to be doing the same job that Morrison was, which meant he didn't have a huge impact on the game until the last 30 minutes. But like others, a few of his forward balls were intercepted. 6/10

Bakary Sako

Probably his best performance in Baggies colours, but was caught on his heels when Barnes sent in a cross and had a shot blocked when Morrison slipped him through. Showed flashes of potential and an encouraging use of strength. 6/10

Jay Rodriguez

Shown a straight red card for an alleged stamp, but based on the replays it looked soft, and Albion are appealing. Only he knows if he meant to land on Marco Matias with force but he does appear to be looking at the ball. 5/10

Harvey Barnes

His ability to control the ball at speed is frightening. Barnes is usually so clinical, but this time, his approach play was far better than his final ball. Shots were wayward, and crosses just evaded their men. But it wasn’t through want of trying. 7/10

Substitutes

Matt Phillips (Adarabioyo 66)

Made a difference when he came on and set up the goal. 7/10

Gareth Barry (Morrison 66)

A like for like replacement but added a bit of composure. 6/10

Hal Robson-Kanu

Immediately forced Cameron Dawson into this first save of the game. 6/10

Unused: Myhill, Mears, Harper, Hoolahan.
