Alan Jones-Bratt, founder of the West Bromwich Albion Supporters’ Golf Club, has organised the event at Sandwell Park Golf Club for Friday, August 17.

As well as honouring Regis’s memory, any money raised will be donated to the charity that Cyrille’s family are setting up to continue his legacy.

Not only has Julia agreed to play a round of golf, she will be entering a team of four on the day and has thrown her backing behind it.

“It’s wonderful they want to honour Cyrille’s legacy by dedicating the day to his memory,” said Julia.

Former Albion and Villa boss Ron Atkinson and ex-Villa player Steve Staunton could also play.

Jones-Bratt is now looking for sponsors and players keen to join in.

“We have an annual charity day,” he explained. “It’s usually in July. Since we started in 2006 we’ve raised in excess of £36,000 which we’re very proud of.

“I was one of the many that went to The Hawthorns for the memorial service which was wonderful.

“Everybody there was moved. It occurred to me shortly afterwards, why not organise a Cyrille Regis Memorial Golf Day.

“Julia gave us permission to go out with it and she’s going to be coming along.

“We’re only a small society, we’ve been going 12 years. But we have a good crack.

“We’ve even got Wolves supporters and Villa supporters in our midst, and play 10 events a year from March to December.”

The family are also planning to organise their own golf day to remember Cyrille at a later date.
