The Albion and Ireland winger has only netted once for the Baggies this season – against West Ham on January 2 – but his strike for Ireland has been named their goal of the year at the FAI International Awards.

McClean grabbed a stunning winner against Wales in Cardiff to fire Ireland into the World Cup qualifying play-offs at the expense of the hosts.

The 28-year-old’s 57th-minute winner sparked wild celebrations among the Irish fans, although they went on to miss out on a spot at the World Cup finals in Russia after being thrashed 5-1 by Denmark, courtesy of a hat-trick from Tottenham midfielder Christian Eriksen.
