The 43-year-old joined the Saddlers in May 2019 for their first season in League Two, following relegation.

He finished mid-table in his first season, which was curtailed early due to the coronavirus pandemic, and has so far led Walsall to a similar standing this campaign with one eye on the play-offs.

Now, it is understood he has left his role at the Banks's Stadium ahead of the club's clash with Cheltenham Town tomorrow night.

Despite strong links with former club Bristol Rovers, who recently sacked manager Paul Tisdale, Bristol Live reporter Sam Frost says Clarke will not be returning to the Gas.

Odds have dropped with bookmakers for Clarke to move to Northampton Town, who recently parted ways with manager Keith Curle.

They currently sit second bottom of League One.
