After a performance against Portsmouth that showed no sign of any new manager bounce, and the postponement against Bradford, the next three games against teams below us in the league look make or break.

It might not be in the Saddlers natural mould this season, but we have to show more attacking intent than we did against Portsmouth.

In recent seasons, our record against the weaker sides in the division has been poor, and our game has been much better suited to counter-attacking those teams near the top.

Something has to change in either mentality or personnel, and the first thing I’d look to do is take the risk of bringing in the slightly more adventurous Dobson for the safe option of Chambers. Be bold Dean!

We need a win. Plain and simple.

Forget all that has happened up to now, this is a seven team, seven game mini-league and we’ve got to do the business.

Against Portsmouth, we looked more organised and better set-up without the ball, but with zero confidence when we had it.

Other defences in the remaining games won’t be as tough as Portsmouth’s so hopefully, we can hurt those teams more than we have done recently.

It’s still in our hands but as we’ve only won one or two games each month this season, ideally we’ve got to do something we’ve not managed to do as yet - win three.

So another game and another defeat, now I can't talk about Saturday as I wasn't there.

Prior engagements meant I was on a red carpet instead of the Banks's - I mean what a stupid idea to be the only team to play on Saturday rather than Good Friday!

Then for the sixth postponement of the season on Monday meant I went all Easter without a live game.

We are now just two points clear of the drop.

Scary stuff and realism needs to filter down to players and media that we are deep in trouble.

Jon Whitney deserves the majority of the blame for assembling such an inexperienced and unbalanced squad but the board have to take the blame too.

Whitney should have gone after Newport. Now after seven defeats in eight we face Bury, Oldham and Wimbledon.

This determines our fate. Failure to get five points will doom us to League 2 football.

So everyone get to the Banks's on Saturday - the club needs us all!

Defeat to Portsmouth wasn't really a surprise to me and I find myself more confident now than before, despite falling to just two points off the drop zone.

Whilst we still offered nothing up top, defensively we looked so much more organised and everyone knew their roles well.

But with such a massive week coming up we can't afford anymore mistakes.

I think we need to take at least five points from the next three which is definitely possible - although even then we'll still be needing another two points from somewhere.

Anything less, and I'll really start to worry but I am confident that 10 days from now things will start to look better.

This is our opportunity to put relegation fears behind us and start to look forward. Come on boys!
