And the likeable manager dedicated his team’s success to everyone connected with the club – including Stour’s ‘fantastic’ fans.

Two goals from Luke Benbow saw the Glassboys triumph over Hednesford in the final held at Birmingham’s St Andrew’s stadium on Tuesday.

The result meant Stourbridge lifted the trophy for the first time in 50 years – much to the delight of Hackett.

“I said before in the dressing room that we’d played 62 games, we hadn’t won the cup for 50 years and it would be a great way to finish the season,” the boss said.

“It’s been a difficult season. But I’m absolutely delighted for everyone at the club. It’s not just the players, the staff, it’s for everybody.

“It was great for the fans. They’ve gone to Birmingham City and a Championship ground and seen Stourbridge win it for the first time in 50 years.

“We are used to some good times but twice in my tenure we’ve been beaten in the Birmingham Senior Cup final so I’m absolutely delighted.”

Hackett said he was particularly pleased for the club’s supporters.

“The fans have been fantastic all season,” he added.

“Even at times when things haven’t gone for us they have been behind us.

“I just knew we’d completely outnumber Hednesford.

“I knew it because that’s what they’re like.

“It lifted the players and the celebrations at the end were for them as well.”
