Khalsa pay the price for a second-half no-show

Sporting Khalsa’s nine-game winning run came to a screeching halt as they were downed 4-0 at home by Westfields.

Things went well enough for Ian Rowe’s charges against the Midland Premier table-toppers in the first half. Liam Armstrong and Mensah Kinch both had chances.

Centre-half Leon Miles did not come out for the second period, though, because of an injury and Khalsa spectacularly unravelled on their artificial pitch.

Within a minute of the restart, Craig Jones, who caused problems all afternoon, finished brilliantly to put Westfields ahead. And a goalkeeping error was punished as the visitors doubled their advantage moments later.

Sam Arnold was caught in no man’s land following a weak clearance and Keanu Cooper did well to convert from long range.

Jamie Molyneux latched onto a through-ball to make it three and Jones got another to add to Rowe’s woes, completing the rout.

Khalsa, who face Wrens Nest tonight in the JW Hunt Cup, have also had Jonny Haynes leave to join league rivals Romulus. He was in his third season with the club.

Also in the division, AFC Wulfrunians picked up a 2-1 win at South Normanton Athletic. Charles Wilson and Craig Gregg bagged Wulfs’ goals. Stourport Swifts beat Lye Town 2-0, Walsall Wood were 2-1 victors against Quorn and Wolverhampton Sporting drew 1-1 with Highgate United.

Lye Town have a big test tonight against Stafford Rangers in the Staffordshire Senior Cup and AFC Wulfrunians have a similarly difficult encounter at Tamworth in the Birmingham Senior Cup.

In Division One, Brocton fell to a 2-0 loss at NKF Burbage and a last-gasp wonder strike from Jordon Dodd saw Heath Hayes come out on the wrong end of a five-goal thriller against Rocester at home.

Hayes took the lead through a Dean Williams penalty. Rocester levelled through a spot-kick of their own, Jack Jeffery scoring.

Andrew Davis struck to put the hosts back ahead but Jack Dundas and Dodd netted to give the visitors the spoils.
