Seamus is final team member

Villa have appointed Coventry's Seamus McDonagh as their new goalkeeping coach as manager Martin O'Neill completed his backroom team. McDonagh was at Bodymoor Heath for talks yesterday as Eric Steele left Villa this week after six years with the club.

O'Neill and McDonagh worked together at Leicester, but the former Bolton and Everton keeper wouldn't join him at Celtic due to McDonagh's wife's illness.

The ex-Republic of Ireland international - 54 tomorrow - was brought to Coventry by former Sky Blues boss Peter Reid in the summer of 2004.

But his association with O'Neill goes back much longer as the pair were team-mates at Notts County in 1983-84.

O'Neill confirmed that McDonagh's arrival completes his backroom changes, following assistant boss John Robertson, coach Steve Walford and chief scout Ian Storey-Moore.

That means long-serving Kevin MacDonald, currently bossing the Republic of Ireland for Saturday's Euro 2008 qualifier against Cyprus in the absence of banned manager Steve Staunton, remains reserve team coach.

Garry Parker had been rumoured to be in line to replace MacDonald.

Former Nottingham Forest and Derby striker John O'Hare has also been appointed to the Villa scouting staff.
